| Bellingham is an outdoors person's
paradise.
Bellingham's location allows you to ski Mount Baker in
the morning and sail the bay by afternoon. Residents celebrate their locale
with parades and sporting events at the annual Ski to Sea Festival.
Settled over a thousand years ago by Native Americans
who crossed the land bridge from Asia to North America, Bellingham mainly
grew up during the Gold Rush. Later, the city became a leading lumber and
port town. Today, with the many nationally registered 19th-century buildings
and homes, the town's Fairhaven Historic District has become a leisurely
dining and shopping district.
Located at the northwestern most point of the continental
U.S., the Bellingham/Whatcom County area is called the nation's Fourth
Corner because it's the last county before the Canadian border. The sea
trucks may take a day cruise to the sunny San Juan Islands or the world-famous
Victoria shore of the British Columbia. All the while, keep your eyes peeled
for the exquisite Orca whales in Bellingham Bay! |
